Blessed or Blessed OUT?

It seems recently everywhere I turn, the opportunity arises that I have to make a choice on how to respond to someone. This is a lesson the Lord taught me the hard way a while back, which means He's going to hold me accountable for this one. I KNOW what the correct response is when someone speaks harshly or unkindly to me, or treats me opposite of the golden rule directly or indirectly. I also know what my flesh cries out to do: retaliate with words of my own or defend myself or my... Read More

Autumn Anticipation/Anxiety

Back to School!   That term brings up all kinds of memories.  There is excitement of a new school year, new clothes and supplies, a new teacher, seeing old friends and making new ones.  It can also bring anxiety, especially for moms.  Will my child adjust well to a new teacher, or a new school, harder academics, and new friends?  Then we are bombarded with “volunteer opportunities” at school – PTA, room mother, booster club, auction committee, etc.  Then we go... I Messed Up...Again

I knew what I was supposed to do, but I got busy! I knew on Monday of last week that I was feeling the gentle pressure of the Lord to speak a word of encouragement to a "sister-friend" at school. I knew she had been through a tough, ongoing physical ordeal, and that I needed to just remind her that she has had in the past, and continues to have, an incredible impact on the lives of many of "our kids." (They become "your kids" when you spend 90 minutes a day with them for 18 weeks!) But I got... Read More

My daughter and I spent the evening trying to catch fireflies.  There I was, an almost 50 year old woman, running around the yard and jumping in the air trying to grab each bug as it lit up with an illuminating green twinkle in the twilight. Once we finally caught one (yes, just one), we carefully put him in a jar for a night light. I watched the bug frantically crawl all over the jar in an effort to get out.  He stopped blinking his light, and this brilliant insect seemed to... Read More

Will you get your hair wet?!?

As a grandmother, I LOVE having my grandchildren over to my house in the summer.  I have a pool in my backyard and they love to swim!  My two oldest grandchildren are 9 and 6 years old.  They love for me, "Nana", to get in the water and play with them.  They'll say, "Nana, will you swim with us?"  I usually always say, "Sure"!  Then they say, "Will you get your hair wet?"  Well, you know what that means.  They don't want you to just splash around in the... Need Rest?

Ever been just bone weary tired? Me too! April and May were busy, crazy hard months school/work wise. We also experienced a devastating family tragedy during the busyness. I know many of you identify with this exhaustion and also with mental stress- the things we worry about or speculate (that we shouldn't, but we do anyway!) The things that must be planned before we "do" them.  Or people or things we allow to stress us out... We are a tired people. So every time I am asked... Read More

Savor the gift of Motherhood

I spent a good deal of the morning outside on the street trying to rescue earthworms with my nine year old daughter.  The poor worms had washed up on the pavement after a storm, and they could not find their way back to “earth.”  It was at that moment I decided motherhood does not make any sense!  Our children cause us to do and feel things that are not reasonable.  For instance, the natural instinct for survival is totally abolished when our children are in danger, and a... "Warrior mom" for Christ

Two mothers sit on the sideline of the soccer field.  At first, we do not communicate, but then we discover what we have in common- the aching in our hearts to train up children in this “culture gone wild” to be lovers of God and servants for Him.  All of a sudden, the soccer game becomes a Jesus moment, when the hearts of two warrior moms are joined in a battle cry for a generation. The winner of the soccer game doesn’t matter.  What really matters is who wins the... Read More

Rest in Jesus by John Yates

Personal Matters There are distinct periods in my life when I sense in an outstandingly clear way the sheer goodness of God and enter into a space of deep stillness. This can be in prayer, at the kitchen sink, after a time of ministry or almost anywhere. At such times my awareness of God’s rest is indescribable. At other times however I am a very restless person – through disturbed sleep, by news about sin in the Church, over the seeming inability of our society to respond to the presence of... Read More
